How to find Kangaroo Creek Retreat and Kookaburra Hideaway

336 Old North Rd, Pokolbin.

From Sydney…

Head to Wahroonga and take the F3 north towards Newcastle.

After driving for about 100km (1 hour) take the Cessnock exit. Follow the Cessnock signs through the town of Kearsley and on to Cessnock town centre.

At Cessnock turn right at the traffic lights then travel along Vincent Street to the end. Turn left and then immediately right again into Allandale Road. The sign says BRANXTON, SINGLETON.

Follow this road (it becomes Wine Country Drive) for 8km and you will see the Visitor Information Centre on your left. If it is open this is a good place to stop and collect information. There is also a coffee shop and public toilets.

Or stay on Wine Country Drive for another 6 km, past Broke Rd, then past Palmers Lane, then McDonalds Rd. Drive over the long bridge at Black Creek and the next turn on the left is OLD NORTH ROAD.

Turn left into this road and follow it for5.5 km. This end of the road is mostly not sealed but kept in good condition.

Kangaroo Creek is on the left, just after the sealed road begins.

From the north…

Pass through Singleton and head east towards Branxton on the New England Highway. The road opens into a new, concrete divided highway 15km from Singleton, and you want to turn first right after this new section starts into Hermitage Road. The signage says POKOLBIN. Go over the railway line and continue for approx 3.5km. Then turn left into OLD NORTH ROAD. This end of the road is sealed. Follow the road for 3.36km, and Kangaroo Creek is on your right, just opposite the sign that says "Gravel Road".

From Windsor via the Putty Road…

Follow the Putty Road north via Wilberforce towards Singleton. After about 2 hours driving take the turnoff on the right at Milbrodale (Milbrodale Rd): signposted for Broke and Wollombi. Follow this to the end and turn right and then left past the only Store and head towards Cessnock. After about 15 km turn left into Hermitage Road. Follow this for about 9km and turn right into OLD NORTH RD. Kangaroo Creek is on your right after 3.36km opposite the sign that says "Gravel Road".

From Newcastle and the North Coast …

Head for Hexham where the Pacific Highway and New England Highways meet, and continue west along the New England Highway, past Maitland and towards Singleton. At Branxton turn left at the traffic lights and head towards Cessnock.

Approx 6 km along this road (it becomes Wine Country Drive) turn right into OLD NORTH ROAD.

Follow this for 5.5km. This end of the road is mostly not sealed.

Kangaroo Creek is on the left, just after the sealed road begins.
